Acting Coaching

Abigail's unique brand of coaching is "The Big Show" from start to finish:

I have been a working professional actor for over 40 years in Film and Television, as well as 2-4 plays a year. I began working with Abby many years ago and it has been a GAME CHANGER. As a coach, her insight is practical and on point. Her skill as an actor and teacher empowers her to work as a collaborator and a director. I will never approach a script or a role again without her guidance and help. I am grateful for both her friendship and her professional help. Call her! Your work will be better and you will be grateful.  -ALAN BLUMENFELD - Founder Act of Communication (Trial Consultant) 200+TV/Film credits include: Bosch, Heroes, Gilmore Girls,  Laughter on the 23rd Floor (B’way), A Noise Within, South Coast Rep., Oregon Shakespeare Fest.

philosophy:

"Abby is my secret weapon. She’s changed my entire attitude towards auditions, because I’ve been booking work ever since I started coaching with her. As they say, the proof is in the pudding! Abby has a knack for quickly assessing what needs attention and what takes priority during each coaching session. Her breadth of knowledge about playwrights, classic and contemporary material, language and dialects is incredibly valuable—and reliable.  She’s also helped me navigate the audition room, not only because she has extensive, first-hand experience with the directors, writers and producers for whom I audition, but she’s transformed my awkward interactions with the “scary people behind the table” into rich opportunities for communication and play. Plus, she always gives me ways to continue my preparation at home. I’m very grateful for her. -ELLIS GREER - LA Theatre Works, Native Son, Three Days in the Country, Les Liaisons Dangereuses (The Antaeus Theatre Co.)

Abigail has been coaching actors for almost a dozen years. She coaches for film, television, and theatre auditions and is well versed in role preparation. On top of coaching contemporary material, she is a Shakespeare, Styles and Classical Text expert, and has extensive experience coaching dialects.  In short, Abigail does it all.

Her individualized approach to coaching emphasizes the "story" and finding the truth - in all its many facets - in every situation, and in the way that suits every actor.  This unique technique has made Abigail one of the mostly highly sought after artists and coaches working today.  She calls her method: THE BIG SHOW. The Big Show is about performing thoroughly and thoughtfully, but also with fun, freedom, and ease. The Big Show is about each actor, with Abigail's assistance, choosing the story to tell and having the facility to do so. It starts before the actor walks into the audition room or onto the stage - and doesn't end until the Casting Director's door is closed or the last exit is done. Therefore, thorough preparation includes the kibbitzing and self-promotion that surround the work. There's no question that the logic of the scene needs to be in order, a narrative needs to be established to navigate the scene, character choices need to be made, and one MUST have a reliable "moment before," but acting an audition is much more than just the acting.

Auditions: you have to do them, so you might as well prepare for them!
